In a bold step toward addressing feminine hygiene and accessibility challenges, the University of Guyana Students' Society (UGSS) and Women’s Haven®️ Guyana have partnered to launch the Washroom Amenities Project. Announced on January 6, 2025, at the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association Board Room, this collaboration marks a transformative initiative for students across the University of Guyana campuses.

Bridging the Gap in Hygiene Access

The partnership focuses on providing essential feminine care products through campus washrooms, aiming to improve the dignity and health of students. Women’s Haven Guyana, renowned for its eco-friendly, organic sanitary products infused with graphene, is the key supplier for this initiative. These products combat irritation and health concerns associated with traditional feminine care, offering students a superior alternative.

“This partnership is more than products; it’s about empowerment and fostering inclusivity on campus,” emphasized Lexann McPhoy, CEO of Women’s Haven®️ Guyana.

A Vision for Dignified Spaces

The UGSS commitment to transforming campus spaces includes:

• Hosting hygiene awareness sessions for all students.

• Promoting male allyship in the fight against period poverty.

• Equipping both male and female washrooms with essential sanitary items.

UGSS President Tirishatha Semple noted, “This project reflects our goal to ensure every student has access to dignified, well-equipped facilities that support their success.”

Expanding the Impact

With a vision to expand to other institutions, this initiative aligns with national efforts championed by Guyana’s First Lady to combat period poverty. This partnership sets a benchmark for public-private collaborations addressing social challenges.

The partnership between UGSS and Women’s Haven®️ Guyana serves as a beacon of innovation and social responsibility. By addressing critical hygiene needs, this collaboration inspires a collective commitment to the well-being of all students and sets a precedent for sustainable solutions nationwide.
